Cloud9 have finalized their LCS roster for the 2017 season, with jungler William “Meteos” Hartman moving off the main roster and Juan “Contractz” Garcia taking his starting position. The team also announced a new assistant coach, Jang “Cain” Nu-ri, and substitute top laner Jeon “Ray” Ji-won.The org announced they have signed new multi-year deals with much of their 2016 starting lineup. Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi and Andy “Smoothie” Ta are all signed to the org for another three years, while head coach Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu will stay for at least another two. Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong and Meteos remain contracted with the org until Nov. 20 2017, according to Riot’s contract database. The announcement confirms an earlier ESPN report that Contractz would join the main lineup and Ray would join as a sub. Contractz was previously part of the org as a registered sub for their LCS roster and a member of Cloud9 Challenger. C9C made it into the LCS through the Summer 2016 Promotion Tournament, where they dispatched Team Liquid Academy 3-2. When the team and LCS spot were reportedly sold to Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wesley Edens earlier this month, Contractz was the only C9C player who did not join the new org. Ray joins Cloud9 after a year on Apex Gaming’s starting lineup. Apex finished seventh in the NA LCS summer season, but Ray himself finished third on the ballot for NA LCS Rookie of the year. After Apex merged with Team Dignitas, Ray left the team and was later replaced by Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho. Cain is another notable addition, as one half of the bottom lane on the NaJin Black Sword squad that was Korea’s first seed at the Season 3 World Championships. He left the organization after NaJin dropped its sponsorship in fall 2015, and for the past year has been a coach for CJ Entus. 2016 was a year of growth for Cloud9, compared to a 2015 that saw them as a Worlds Cinderella story. The team came 5th-6th in the spring split, but a summer resurgence took them to the NA LCS Season Finals and a victory in the 2016 World Championship regional qualifier. They were the only NA team to make it to the quarterfinals at Worlds, though they lost 3-0 to Samsung Galaxy.
