Samsung Galaxy top laner Lee “CuVee” Seong-jin said he felt less pressure than usual facing the world’s best League of Legends team to begin the League Champions Korea summer split. Samsung defeated SK Telecom T1 2-0 on Wednesday, cementing its status — at least for now — as one of the strong teams of the LCK. In an interview with Fomos’ Choi Min-sook, CuVee said he felt comfortable facing SKT to begin the split. “I didn’t feel pressure because we were facing SKT as our first opponent,” he said. “I think we were able to win because I was playing with a comfortable mindset.” In Game 1 of the series, Samsung showed immaculate game management as it won the game without losing a single turret to SKT. Samsung also showed effective usage of the newly reworked Rift Herald, pushing in lanes with great effectiveness. CuVee showed his prowess of forming his picks around his team, playing Kled in Game 1 to round out the damage with hard initiations, and playing Camille in Game 2 to again balance damage variety, as well as going toe to toe against Rumble. CuVee also said that he personally wants to show improvement from the last split, feeling the the team generally fell off as the split went on, making the new goal of Samsung to be consistently at the top as the fans expect them to be. Given the team’s struggles throughout the offseason in terms of practice, Samsung’s hot start was a good sign and is part of the team’s process moving forward. “We showed bad performances in the later parts of last split,” he said. “This split I want us to do well from start to finish. I think I got a strong sense of competition this split. I want to show good performances as I sharpen my skills.”
