According to the report, Parken Sport og Entertainment A/S, the company behind the Danish football champions, is planning an annual double-digit million DKK investment to bring esports to the club in three different games: Counter-Strike, Fifa and Dota 2. Copenhagen will sign a pre-existing CS:GO team or build one from scratch, but the report comes just hours after dignitas parted ways with their squad in what was described as “a mutual decision”. The Danish football champions are looking to enter esports Parken Sport og Entertainment A/S director Anders Hørsholt confirmed to Finans.dk that the club are following esports closely, but refused to share any specific plans.
“We are following the course of developments in esports as other major football clubs are,” he said. “It is an exciting area, one F.C. Copenhagen want to be part of in the future. But if and when that happens, only time will tell.”
F.C. Copenhagen, who competed in the Champions League this season, could thus become the latest football club to enter esports, following in the footsteps of other household names such as Paris Saint-Germain, Schalke and Valencia.
