[hkes_show_google_ad] The 2017 NA CS Spring Split finals between EUnited and Gold Coin United was more known for the less-than-kind words between the two teams than the play itself. One of those involved in the notorious finals, GCU head coach Choi “Locodoco” Yoonsup, joined The Nexus Podcast “The way Europeans trash-talk, it’s savage, and they just trash-talk for the sake of trash-talking. They say stuff and they expect people not to take it so seriously.” He said. “In America, it’s more PG, and the fan base is more against it, and also the sponsors are more against it too, in terms of trash-talk like this.” And Loco’s response? “I actually trash-talked in person, and I actually said very mean and very, very rude things. Honestly I gave up my trash-talking ways, but they [EUnited] gave me an open invitation to the party and it’s not like I wasn’t going to go,” he said. And did they respond in person? “Oh yeah they did, Brokenshard [Ram “Brokenshard” Djemal] said ‘Oh my God, if you ever do that again, I’m going to knock you out.’ He got so mad, threatening physical violence, it was one of the most satisfying parts. In between games I consistently trash-talked.” Despite the incident, Loco feels like trash-talking has too many consequences to engage in it constantly. “The fan base is very against [trash-talking]. Gilius [Berk “Gilius” Demir] just got smited by the fan base across the board, and he made his team very unlikable and unpopular within a few hours of that happening. The repercussions are very high in NA, I think that’s why people are less likely to do it.” However, there are stark differences between what happened at the NA CS Spring Split finals and the trash-talking that is expected between teams which is normally seen in good fun. Simply put, Loco pointed out that “People don’t trash-talk the way that EUnited did.” Tuesday to talk about the expectations and limits of trash-talking in LoL. “It’ll be like me and Parth [Parth “Parthenaan” Naidu] saying ‘Oh my God, the princess has returned.’ We’ll say dumbass stuff that’s not trash-talking, but it’s between two friends having fun like that, in good spirits. If I didn’t know someone, or if I wasn’t good friends with them, or if we were on bad terms, I wouldn’t trash-talk because that’s actually starting something… because there’s bad history there. I wouldn’t randomly trash-talk teams that I have no connections to. It should be friends bantering, that’s how I see it as.” [hkes_show_google_ad]
