New North American Challenger Series team Gold Coin United have signed the first four players for their 2017 Spring Split roster: Lucas “Santorin” Larssen, Colin “Solo” Earnest, Richard “Rikara” Samuel Oh and Kim “FeniX” Jae-hun. FeniX and Solo come to the team from Team Liquid, though FeniX played for the organization’s LCS roster and Solo was part of Team Liquid Academy. Santorin last played for NRG Esports, which was relegated to the Challenger Series in the Summer and sold their spot to Gold Coin. Finally, Rikara is a rookie AD carry, who last played for Nova eSports in the 2016 NA CS Summer Season. The team will be coached by former Team SoloMid and Team Liquid coach Choi “Locodoco” Yoon-sup. “I’m excited to work with Santorin, Solo and Fenix again,” Locodoco told ESPN’s Jacob Wolf. “I’ve had a chance to personally work with all these players and they’ve shown potential to grow and perform on the [League Championship Series] stage. I highly value their work ethic and willingness to improve and I can’t wait to show what we can achieve.” Gold Coin is operated by J2K Esports and Technology, which is owned by New York real estate mogul James Kuhn and his son Jacob Kuhn. The team is currently bootcamping in South Korea, and is looking to sign one more Korean player to fill out their two import slots.
