But just a few sets into the 2017 LCK Spring Season, Huni has put those criticisms to rest. “I’m happy – I think I completely wiped out this notion that Huni can’t play tanks,” he said in a Daily eSports interview translated by Akshon Esports. “I’ll carry the pressure and expectations, all the way to a championship.” Huni has shown himself as one of the top Maokai players in the world, stealing raptors and red buffs and even outlaning counter champions such as Fiora. “Now that I got rid of [my negativity toward Maokai after a bad game in Europe], I’m very happy, proud, and satisfied that I can put out good performances for the fans,” he said So far this season, SKT are undefeated in three matches. But despite his success with tanky champions, Huni’s true top lane favorites are still carries. “I’m practicing a lot of carry champions,” he stated. “Tank champions are certainly important as well, so I’m playing a good balance of the two.” In the fourth game of his LCK debut, Huni brought a new champion into the spotlight: Gangplank. Huni’s pirate performance versus Kongdoo Monsters was his first carry game of the season and it turned heads with a 2/0/6 KDA. “I’ve had good results with Gangplank, and thought it was a good time to pick him,” said Huni, “So I told coach kk0ma and he allowed it. Thanks to that, I was able to relax and put out a good performance.” Gangplank’s explosive introduction may have been Huni’s first carry game but to him, The Saltwater Scourge is by no means his most threatening pick.
