Kongdoo Monster qualifies for LCK

Esports Asia News
ongdoo Monster became the first team from the promotion tournament to qualify for the LoL Champions Korea Spring 2017 split with a 3-1 victory over ESC Ever on Thursday. ESC started strong in Game 1, thanks to jungler Kim “Ares” Min-kwon’s unusually proactive early game on Hecarim. Despite this lead, ESC lost to Kongdoo thanks to teamfighting miscues and a late-scaling Gangplank for Kongdoo top laner Kim “Roach” Kang-hui. Game 2 belonged to Ares, whose Rek’Sai obliterated Kongdoo jungler Son “Punch” Min-hyuk. This performance led ESC to their only victory of the night. Games 3 and 4 were owned by Kongdoo, with strong showings from AD carry Seo “Ssol” Jin-sol on Ezreal and mid laner Lee “Edge” Ho-Seong on Taliyah and Lissandra. Game 4 also featured another strong Rek’Sai performance, this time from Kongdoo’s Punch, who built Titanic Hydra as his first item and immediately went to work, dismantling ESC alongside Edge and his Teleport Lissandra. Throughout the evening, Kongdoo Monster were the more coordinated and organized team, showing stronger communication than the ESC squad, especially in teamfights. In a postmatch broadcast interview, Ssol attributed their increased coordination to the team’s desire to get back into the LCK. Kongdoo Monster are the remnants of the old NaJin organization, a former staple in OnGameNet’s champions. They were previously known as e-mFire, and were rebranded during LCK Spring 2016 after being picked up by Kongdoo on Feb. 18, 2016. More recently, Kongdoo were crowned champions of the 2016 Challengers Korea Summer season. ESC will face CJ Entus on Saturday, Aug. 27 to decide the tenth and final team in LCK Spring 2017. One of major questions for ESC going forward will be who they decide to start in the top lane between Kim “Crazy” Jae-hee and Jin “Firetrap” Jae-seung. While Ares performed well in lieu of ESC’s starting summer jungler, Choi “Bless” Hyeon-woong, Firetrap did not appear as comfortable with the team in this series as Crazy was in ESC’s promotion matches on Monday.   [Source: TheScore]
