Top laner Jang “MaRin” Gyeong-hwan has signed with the Afreeca Freecs, the organization announced Monday. The news was first posted on the team’s Facebook page, and included a picture of the newest member of the roster in a Freecs jersey. With the signing, the Freecs now have three players under contract: MaRin, mid laner Lee “Kuro” Seo-haeng and AD carry Ha “Kramer” Jong-hun. They have also added coach Choi “iloveoov” Yeon-sung. MaRin spent the 2016 season in the LPL playing with LGD Gaming. The team finished fourth in their group in the 2016 spring split with an 8-8 record, meaning that they did not have to face relegation. In the summer split, however, they finished fifth with a 7-9 record, played through the 2017 Spring Promotion tournament and avoided relegation. MaRin played Gnar, Rumble and Ekko in over half his 37 games during the summer season, finishing the season with an overall KDA of 2.54. He left LGD Gaming on Dec. 3; LGD have not yet named a replacement top laner. Before leaving the region for China in 2016, MaRin spent the 2014 season with SK Telecom T1 S, and then 2015 with the newly merged SK Telecom T1. He helped win the 2015 Season World Championship and was named MVP of the tournament.
