Misfits Academy have earned a spot in the 2017 EU LCS Summer Split with their 3-2 win over Fnatic Academy at the 2017 EU LCS Summer Promotion tournament, but the organization will be forced to sell the spot before the split begins. MFA placed fourth in the 2017 EU CS Spring Season with a 1-2-2 record, while Fnatic Academy finished the season in second at 2-1-2. However, MFA provided a shocking 3-1 upset over Promotion Tournament favourite FC Schalke 04 in the 2017 EU CS Spring Playoffs, qualifying them for a shot at promotion. In the promotion tournament, MFA beat Giants Gaming 3-1 to reach the qualifying round. While the individual games were close, Florent “Yuuki60” Soler put on a clinic with Ezreal in game 5, closing out MFA’s run to promotion at 8/0/2. This is the last split that European LCS teams will be allowed to field sister teams in the Challenger Series, meaning Msifits will have to disband their Challenger Series Academy program by the summer. Due to the sister team clause in the EU LCS rules, Misfits will not be allowed to field both their main and academy rosters in the LCS and will be forced to sell the summer split spot that MFA earned today. Fnatic Academy will have another shot at promotion on Saturday, when they’ll face off against the winner of Giants and Origen’s loser’s bracket match.
