mousesports and FaZe are the first two teams to qualify for ESL One Cologne from the event in Katowice after defeating G2 and Gambit, respectively. Many had high expectations for the match between G2 and mousesports, two teams who have been in great form lately, but it turned out to be a complete blowout as the Germans were in control from the get-go and never let their opponents get a foot in the door. Powered by an incredible performance from Denis “denis” Howell, mousesports got off to a dream start as their defense could not be breached by the Frenchmen. No matter what G2 did, the result was the same, prompting Richard “shox” Papillon to call a timeout at 0-9.
mousesports through to the Major in convincing fashion It would take G2 four more rounds before they finally managed to get on the scoreboard, but then they failed to build on that win, allowing mousesports to close out the half with a comfortable 14-1 lead. Things went from bad to worse for G2 as they dropped the pistol round on the CT side, with mousesports following it up with an anti-eco round to lock down the map 16-1 and seal passage to ESL One Cologne. The last match of the day saw FaZe and Gambit go head-to-head for a spot at the $1 Million Major. After a hectic period in which the teams traded rounds, FaZe took control of the game and stormed to a 4-1 lead. But Gambit labored hard to prevent their opponents from running away with the lead and even managed to get ahead on the scoreboard before the end of the half. After the break, Gambit picked up a few more rounds after a flawless pistol setup, but then FaZe hit back in gun play, fuelled by insane back-to-back clutches from Ricardo “fox” Pacheco.
fox pulled off two insane clutches as Terrorist Gambit called a timeout to adjust their offense, but a solitary round was all they could manage going forward as FaZe secured a 16-11 win to book their spot at ESL One Cologne.
