Apparently, while combing through Counter-Strike’s latest updates some .wav strings were found for the TAC-21. In the real world, the TAC-21 is a chassis system for a Remington 700, Savage, or Tikka T3 bolt-action rifle. I say real world because the AK-47 really should be named the AKM. Back on point, where would a new gun fit in the world of Counter-Strike?
As a Sniper Rifle
The TAC-21 being a sniper rifle has been by and large the most speculated form this gun would take. When you use your brain on the other hand, there’s no room for another sniper. We already have the SCAR, a semi-automatic. We have the Scout; the cheaper, weaker, two-shot sniper rifle. And of course, the AWP, the one shot sniper. What utility would a new sniper bring? What’s its kill potential? A burst-fire sniper, that’s what. /s.As a Semi-Automatic Rifle, No Scope
Here is where things get interesting. We don’t have a semi-automatic rifle you’d use tap heads with consistent accuracy. One that doesn’t have a scope anyway. Without changing the buy menu at all, this gun could be available to both sides, replacing the SG and the AUG. They’ve done it with the R8 and the Deagle… just a theory of mine. It’s damage, penetration, and mobility would have to be properly balanced though because ScreaM would reign supreme if I’m right.Just Noise
Lately, Valve’s been replacing sounds for all weapons in CS:GO and this might just be another. Here’s the official announcement if you’ve never noticed:Today we’re shipping the first in a series of planned updates to sound in CS:GO. The goal of these updates is to improve overall sound quality while addressing feedback about ear fatigue and distortion. We’ve started with a few weapons in the Heavy category (specifically the Negev, M249, and Mag7), and will progress through the rest of the arsenal over time. Additionally, the smoke grenade sound has been reworked to ensure that it can be heard separately from other game sounds (e.g., defuse sounds). Have a listen, and let us know what you think! If it’s just a sound change, then I would have to assume it would be for the SCAR. What do you think these files are actually for?
