LoL: SAJ wins GPL Finals

The titans have fallen! In an age old rivalry between arguably two of the best regions in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has come out ahead against Thailand this time around, with Saigon Jokers taking down defending champions, Bangkok Titans, 3-1 in the GPL 2016 Spring Season Finals. The Jokers started off their GPL campaign shaky, placing only third during the Group Stage no thanks to initial losses to BKT and a surprisingly well-coordinated Imperium Pro Team. Facing both the teams in the Playoffs again, however, the Vietnamese squad made sure not to waste the opportunities for revenge by dismantling their opponents without too much hassle. “The team has put in a lot of effort into making this possible. We’ve put in many days and hours into training, and we came here [with only one thing in mind], to take the champions title,” said mid laner Lovida after SAJ’s emphatic victory. The win means that SAJ will be representing Southeast Asia next at the upcoming International Wildcard Invitational (IWCI) on 16 Apr, where the winner of that tournament will enter the prestigious Mid-Season Invitational event. “It is an honor for SAJ and Vietnam to be able to represent Southeast Asia in the IWCI. We will definitely try our best to show the world that Southeast Asia is also strong region right now,” said Lovida. With their strong showing here at the GPL 2016 Spring Season tournament, it is exciting times as SAJ prepares to take on the champions from other notable regions at the IWCI, including Brazil (CBLOL), Oceania (OPL) and Turkey (TCL). So, be sure to follow the journey of Southeast Asia’s representatives in the coming weeks.
