FC Schalke 04 have brought on several LCS veterans to help them regain their spot in the EU LCS, according to a report from ESPN’s Jacob Wolf that cites unnamed sources close to the organization and players. The report says Schalke’s spring 2017 roster will consist of top laner Max “Satorius” Günther, jungler Jean-Victor “loulex” Burgevin, mid laner Marcin “SELFIE” Wolski, AD carry Elias “Upset” Lipp and support Oskar “VandeR” Bogdan. Upset, VandeR’s reported bot lane partner, is a rookie AD carry who was set to join Giants Gaming per an official statement from the team on Dec. 8. However, Giants put out a statement yesterday alleging the player went back on a deal to sign with the organization before his contract was finalized. The statement didn’t say whether Upset was in negotiations with another team. Of the remaining new members, SELFIE was mid laner for Misfits during the summer season, but announced his free agency in early December and was replaced on that team several days later by Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage. loulex jungled for Unicorns of Love in the 2016 spring season as the last in a string of stand-ins for Danil “Diamondprox” Reshetnikov, who was unable to secure a visa. loulex left UoL ahead of the summer season and was replaced by Kang “Move” Min-su. Satorius is currently a member of the roster that was signed by LDLC in early November. Before that, he was a member of Epsilon eSports, which participated in the EU CS Summer Split. Schalke were one of the first European football organizations to blaze a trail in esports, buying out Elements’ LCS spot and roster in May. However they had a disappointing first split, finishing eighth with a 3-9-6 record. A 3-1 loss to Misfits at the 2017 EU LCS Spring Promotion tournament sealed their relegation to the Challenger Series, but the organization later said they planned to stick with LoL and requalify for the LCS. At the beginning of the offseason, Schalke parted ways with their roster and held a scouting event to find capable new rookies. It now looks like none of the players that attended Schalke’s scouting event and were selected as part of their pre-season roster made it through to the final Challenger squad.
