Sean Gares comments on Misfits’ delayed EPL game vs. C9

[hkes_show_google_ad] Misfits captain Sean Gares called the lengthy delay that took place during their ESL Pro League match against Cloud9 a “confusing situation to all of us because we were in a unique situation that the match was virtually over when the server restarted.” The match in question took place Thursday night and was delayed near the end of the first map due to apparent issues with the server restarting and the match medic failing to restore the game. All in all, the first map of the series took five hours to complete even though Misfits were on match point in a four-versus-one situation. “Given our locations I think it’s fair to say that [Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert] had an extremely small chance of winning the round,” Gares said in a statement to theScore esports. “If he plants then one of us charges and he loses time and if he goes for kills one of us hides and he can’t win due to running out of time. “I think ESL should’ve made a judgement call and granted us the win, but I can kind of understand that they didn’t,” Gares said. As the map was not completed, the match medic was used to try to restore the map, but that took much longer than expect. “It was crazy that it then took over two-and-a-half hours, and two failed match medic attempts, to get a match medic on the server on the incorrect round (the server didn’t save the match medic on 24-23… it only saved 24-22),” Gares said. “We technically ended the game 25-22 even though the real score would’ve been 25-23. “After the map was over it was already ~3 a.m. for our east coast players, but we still had to play a second map. I don’t think I’ve ever played a match that late, so it was definitely a unique scenario.” EliGE also says a similar situation occurred during a match against NRG. theScore esports has reached out to ESL for comment and will update this article when we hear back from them.
