SSG coach Choi Woo-beom: “Being in first place is meaningless

Samsung Galaxy League of Legends head coach Choi Woo-beom was not fazed by the fact his team finished the first half of the League Champions Korea summer split in first place. Samsung’s 2-1 win against Longzhu Gaming on Wednesday cemented Samsung’s first place status halfway through the LCK summer split with a record of 8-1. Although Samsung is tied with SK Telecom T1, Samsung is in first place by winning the only head-to-head match the two teams played so far. In an interview with OSEN’s Ko Yong-jun, the Choi said that the standings right now don’t mean anything. “With the next round just around the corner, being in first place is meaningless,” he said. “We had a hard time winning the match today, and even the games that we won, we couldn’t do so cleanly. We have a lot to work on.” To Choi’s credit, the victory against Longzhu was a bit of mess. Game 1’s relentless focus on keeping mid laner Lee “Crown” Min-ho down proved effective as Longzhu took the game. Games 2 and 3 were also constant tugs of war, as Samsung was unable to close out the game as Longzhu put up a formidable defensive. The rather messy success of Samsung is also in part due to the team’s current efforts to change the way it plays, as Choi said in a previous interview. Despite the difficulties, it’s also true that Samsung has been quite impressive as of late, and it will be interesting if they can upset the current balance in the LCK.
